Gingerbread House Cake -2013-

Has everyone recovered from the 'food food food' Christmas period yet? I... ate too much and mainly filled my belly with cake, cream and sweets...

This year I was very determined to make something bit more than an ordinary gingerbread house.

First of all, I designed my gingerbread house on paper, then printed out the template and practiced making the house with paper before I actually built it with biscuits. Yes, call me a control freak geek...

The biscuits, the cake, and the building work... All went very well. By the evening of Christmas Eve, "The Tower" made it to Andy's mum and dad's house safely. ;D
The gingerbread house was built on a very light coconut sponge iced with cream cheese frosting and coconut flake to make it look like a snowy ground.
The stained glass effect ;D
Cotton candy for the chimney...

What's more special about this year's gingerbread house was it had a secret inside, which was revealed at the dinner table by breaking "The Tower"!

...., So....,
We broke "The Tower"
bang,
bang,
bang!
"The Tower" was filled with sweets!!

It was such a fun to make the gingerbread house from scratch then destroy, and just tuck in it!
Not only was I pleased with the look but also, taste wise, the cake was nice and light and the gingerbread was very moreish too.
I'm definitely up for doing this again. ;D

Baby shower cake

Yesterday we were invited to our friend's baby shower and I brought a cake for the mum&dad-to-be. I put a baby pink bird and a message ('mummy & daddy, see you soon') on a lemon cake. :)

I can't wait to see the baby girl. Good luck to Mary and Yung!

And also, thanks to Sam for hosting such a lovely baby shower. ;D

30th birthday cake for a neighbour's son

It's been a little while since I made this kind of cake...
(if I remembered correctly, the last time was that 5 tire wedding cake!)

So, I had a birthday cake order from our neighbour. It was their son's 30th birthday yesterday. I made a classic sponge cake with jam and butter cream in the middle and iced the cake.

It was nice to make something a bit more "formal" than my usual style. However I have to admit that it's not the most fun thing to do when you have a very demanding little person always needing you for one thing and another. It just so hard to focus!!

Anyway, I managed to deliver the cake on time and we were even given a few pieces of the cake and a glass of champagne. ;)

Happy 30th birthday, Mr G.

Gingerbread house

Three days into 2012 but I'm just catching up with my 2011 Christmas baking...lazy me...

Last Christmas I made a gingerbread house...but...half way through to Andy's mum and dad house the house started shaking and gradually falling apart on my knees... and it was just a pile of biscuit rubble... I was soooo disappointed ;(

So..., this year I was determined to make a more solid house that would survived the journey. As well as the stability, I made sure that the taste was good and the design was more sophisticated.

And...here we come... my gingerbread house was indeed very solid and made it to Andy's parents' house without any problems!

Design-wise, I created stained glass windows with candy. There was a porch, nice fruity garden, gest of bears, and of course two monkeys! I also did some icing sugar pipings:) Humm, I think I did a good job this year...Very satisfied with my House of Monkeys;D

Sponge cake jam sandwich

Here we come...The World of Sweets's cake delivery is back!

Today's cake is the every one's classic favourite, Jam Sponge Cake! Simply sandwich whatever jam you like between the lovely home-made sponges (or why not ready-made one if you can't be bothered to bake one). This time I opted for the raspberry jam, and little change with the vanilla icing too.

Hope everyone has got a good sugar supply:)

Carrot cake

Carrot cake is a great way of using up the sadly left out carrots in the fridge. This time I went for the carrot cupcake with a hit of coconuts. I used coconut milk and coconut flakes.

Exotic coconut and cinnamon flavour and moist texture is just what I wanted.

Dressed up with pink icing and animal sugar crafts, they are ready to meet Brian's kid, Skyla, tomorrow;)

Last cake of 2010

To say "Bye bye 2010... welcome, 2011:)", I made cupcakes with a Gold butter icing on top. Quite rich icing... but it's OK... because all the sugar intakes of 2010 go back to ZERO on New Year... right?

Thanks to Nneka and Ony for inviting us and a lovely evening:)
